Florida man accused of killing his mother

Criminal charges are never a good thing, especially charges for particularly violent crimes such as homicide or sexual assault. Even if you are innocent, you risk being a pariah in your community as soon as the media gets a hold of your name and photo. There is also the chance that you may actually be convicted even if you are innocent, which is why you need to defend yourself with the help of someone who knows how to handle criminal charges in Florida.

Study claims drunk-driving deaths are underreported

Throughout the United States, including Florida, drunk driving has been a serious concern for many years now. There are even groups such as MADD, which dedicate themselves entirely to raising awareness and reducing instances of drunk driving. Between 1999 and 2009, death certificates indicated that barely 3 percent of fatal traffic crashes were significantly caused by alcohol, but a study published earlier this year shows that this might not be the case.

When accused of a drug crime

Drugs continue to be a large focus of law enforcement agencies and lawmakers, who spare no effort to ensure that dangerous drugs do not end up on the streets. This has led to serious penalties across the country and particularly in the state of Florida. While this is a noble effort, and the penalties were enacted with good intentions, the zeal with which law enforcement pursues drug accusations and drug charges could mean danger for the average Florida resident. It is important to defend yourself if you are accused of a drug crime.

What can someone expect when facing criminal charges?

Criminal charges are not insignificant issues. Obviously being convicted of a criminal offense can have life-altering consequences, including jail time and fines, all of which will vary depending on the severity of the crime. Unfortunately, even if you are acquitted, criminal charges may still have an effect on your life. There have been many cases in the past decade in which the accused was acquitted, but they have still become social pariahs simply due to public perception of their guilt.

Each domestic violence case must be treated specially

The recent incident involving a former Baltimore Ravens football player striking his wife has sent shockwaves through our country and brought issues of domestic violence to the forefront of our cultural conscious. While it is good to continue the discussion of the severity of domestic violence, it is a shame that it takes such a serious case to raise public awareness of it.
