Florida mother arrested in death of her child

Having a baby can be one of the most exciting times life has to offer. Throughout the pregnancy, you care for the child growing inside you, think of names and pick out clothes for the newborn. You bring a wonderful new life into the world and have every intention of giving him or her a good upbringing.

However, once the child comes, life changes drastically and almost no one is prepared for it. New parents have to adapt to the pressures of taking care of a child 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s not always easy and the stress can be unbearable. Many suffer from depression as they struggle to come to grips with the new reality.

A Florida mother was arrested in connection with the November 2013 death of her child. At the arrest in June of this year, she was charged with aggravated child abuse and manslaughter. Court documents allege that the child had diphenhydramine, a popular antihistamine, in his bloodstream at the time of his death. Children who are under the age of two shouldn’t be given this type of medicine.

Before he died, the child had been treated at the hospital for broken ribs and a broken femur. At the autopsy, authorities found that the child had a head contusion and broken wrist. There is some indication that the child could have had brittle bone syndrome, but that is not a confirmed fact.

New mothers are often completely exhausted and sleep deprived and accidents do happen. Without all the evidence, it’s impossible to say what happened in this particular case, but if you are facing accusations of a violent crime like aggravated assault, battery of a child or child abuse, you may want to speak with a Florida attorney.
