Drug charges can completely turn your life upside down, especially if you are ultimately convicted of the charges. Even being arrested and charged could affect your personal life, but a conviction could mean fines, a criminal record or even jail time. This has become a serious threat to many Floridians recently as both local and federal law enforcement have increased their efforts to stop illegal drug trade in our state. If you are charged with a drug crime, it is highly beneficial to you to enlist legal aid.
A man from Destin, Florida was recently arrested after police found pills of various controlled substances on his person. Police were patrolling an area that had recently become a hot spot for vehicle burglaries, and they stopped the accused as he was walking in the area. Due to the criminal activity in the area and the man’s conflicting stories about his reasons for being in the area, police detained and searched him, finding the controlled substances. The man denied any criminal activity and claimed that he had prescriptions for the drugs but had misplaced the prescription.
Cases like these are quite common in the state of Florida, and they emphasize the importance of legal defense in the event of drug charges. This man’s claim could well be true, and yet something as simple as forgetting or misplacing your prescriptions for perfectly legal drugs can still lead to arrest and drug charges.
If you are facing drug charges for any reason, it is recommended that you consult with an attorney. In some instances, depending on the circumstances of your arrest, the case can be thrown out completely. Even if the case is not thrown out, effective legal defense can result in lighter charges and sentencing.
