Drug Charges Archives

Women increasingly falling victim to opioid addiction

When people picture the face of the opioid epidemic, they likely imagine a young man shooting up heroin somewhere like an abandoned building. They probably do not think about their wives or mothers becoming addicted to an opioid. The startling truth is, that in the United States, the number of women dying from opioid overdoses has increased more sharply than the number of men.

What to do if your child is charged with drug possession

You and your spouse have worked hard to provide a loving, comfortable home for your children. You tried your best to raise your child right. Now your son or daughter has been charged with drug possession. You are not sure how you got here, but you know you want to do everything you can to protect your child’s future.

The federal government is about to 'get tough' on opioids

The opioid crisis has captured national attention in recent years. It finally reached the White House in March when President Donald Trump announced his new plan to combat the opioid epidemic in America. Trump's plan is multifaceted and could mean different things to different people. What does it mean to you?

Legal Marijuana? Not In Florida.

With marijuana legal in some states for recreational use and legal in others if you have a doctor's prescription, it's easy assume that possession is marijuana is no longer a crime. This is not the case in Florida. You could end up with a criminal record simply because you were unaware of the law.

Florida law covers many different drug crimes

As you probably know, Florida law has very extensive establishments when it comes to drug charges, which is necessary because there are so many different types and classifications of crimes when drugs are involved. The activity in question will change the possible punishment of a conviction, and the substance in question will also play a role in determining legal penalties. Because there are so many variables, it is imperative that those who are accused of drug crimes seek legal aid as soon as possible.

Drug possession in Florida

Almost every citizen in the United States knows that many types of drugs and controlled substances are illegal to manufacture, distribute and even possess. Simply being found with a few grams of cocaine on your person or in your car could be enough to land you in prison for years and give you a criminal record. In Florida, possession of many of these substances is a third-degree felony, meaning the legal penalties are extremely severe.

Marijuana in Florida

There are many drugs that are universally considered criminal in every state, with the only variance being in the penalties depending on a number of offenses and amount of substance possessed. Things like cocaine and heroin tend to be very problematic in the eyes of the law, it is very unlikely that possession of any amount of these substances will be ignored. However, there is at least one drug that tends to be a legal gray area: marijuana.

Florida man allegedly killed over drug debt

One of the main reasons that the authorities treat certain criminal activities with such severity is that many crimes beget other criminal activity. For example, many states impose harsh laws on cocaine and heroin not only because of the dangers posed by the drugs themselves but also because of the dangers that are caused by individuals seeking the drugs. Drug crimes are arguably chief among the crimes most likely to beget more crime, with many drug lords being responsible for other violent crimes such as homicide or sexual assault.
